Dick

Astral

A woman hears a strange poem at an open-mic, and her reality unravels.

A Short Film

Directed by Hanna Hall

In this surreal and Dada-esque world, a woman is mesmerized by a bizarre poem being performed at a local cafe's open-mic night. Other audience members seem unaffected as this woman’s reality is unraveling. She leaves the cafe still transfixed by the words that shroud her as she seeks safety but reality ultimately slips through the cracks and she is pulled into a transcendent void. Based on the absurd whodunnit play, Astral Dick by James Mathers, this short film is the beginning of the story that leads to a series of mysterious deaths linked to a local poetry cafe. “Some messages are so powerful that they kill the messenger before the pigs can get around to it...”

A girl’s GOT to have options.
— Suicide Girl

“...A really kick ass message will kill the messenger AND the pigs. So REMEMBER, you can kill the messenger, you can kill the pigs, you can kill yourself, but you cannot kill the message. AMEN.”
